Since the first farming and fishing cooperatives were founded (the harbour was built in 1920), growth has been notable, and the town still keeps, despite the emerging trade and inevitable modernisation, the look of the fishing village it was born as.

Today fishing and tourism are the municipality's two main sources of income.
